Breath Free - Ventilator Rehabilitation
At Spaulding Hospital for Continuing Medical Care Cambridge, our team is dedicated to helping patients like you build strength, lung function and transition off your ventilator and onto a path of recovery.
Our physicians and pulmonary staff are from Boston’s top teaching hospitals. Trained in ventilator weaning, liberation and managing a patient who is ventilator dependent. We have a successful track record helping people lessen or eliminate their reliance on a ventilator, and we want to do the same for you.
Spaulding's Approach to Ventilator Rehabilitation
Our approach at Spaulding goes beyond ventilator weaning. We put equal emphasis on improving function and planning for the transition to ventilator independence, for the best chance at long-term success.
For some patients, ventilator support at home is the best option. Our team is adept at working with patients and their families to provide practical education for a successful transition to long-term home ventilator support.
Our keys to success come from the coordinated efforts of a multidisciplinary team. Pulmonary and critical care physicians work with our hospitalists to direct care with a goal of stabilizing and optimizing your underlying medical, nutritional, and respiratory conditions. Respiratory therapists, physical, occupational, nutrition, speech and nurses work with you to help you regain skills and strength.
We recognize that patients and their families are the most important team members of all. We work hard to keep them motivated and involved throughout the rehabilitation process. Our staff includes case managers, social workers, chaplains, and psychologists, who offer counseling, education and support every step of the way.
