Spaulding's Approach to Amputee Rehabilitation
The Amputee Rehabilitation Program of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network offers comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation for patients who have experienced limb loss. With the expert care of our nurses, physical and occupational therapist you will receive the support you need to manage everything from wound care, pain management, prosthetic fitting and prosthetic gait training.
There’s life after limb loss. But, we understand as an amputee survivor, your journey back will require a path and pace that you own. That’s why we’ll tailor a treatment plan to meet your individual needs as part of our Amputee Rehabilitation Program.
Our clinicians work together to provide expert fittings for your prosthesis, and custom orthotics if needed. We also provide gait training, helping you get more comfortable walking on your new prosthetic or using your new arm or hand. Our physical and occupational therapists help you increase the strength and flexibility of your extremities to increase your comfort and range of motion. In order to return you to completing activities of daily living, we also offer driver rehabilitation so you feel comfortable using your prosthesis while safely operating a vehicle, as well as adaptive sports services.
In addition to psychological care, Spaulding Outpatient Center hosts amputee support groups and amputee peer visitation groups so you can connect with individuals who are going through similar experiences.
