INSPIRE Lab – Clinic for Enhanced Independence

What Are We?

We are offering transcutaneous spinal stimulation (ARCEX) and exercise, aimed at improving hand strength and function following spinal cord injuries. Our clinical care is delivered by licensed physical or occupational therapists in an outpatient setting, 2-3 times per week, for 8 weeks.

Health insurance will be billed based on outpatient therapy benefits. Private payment is not currently accepted.

Who Qualifies?

We are currently accepting only patients who meet all ARCEX FDA-approved criteria:

  • 18-75 years old
  • Non-progressive spinal cord injury
  • Incomplete cervical spinal cord injury (C2-C8; ASIA B, C, or D)
  • At least 1 year post-injury
  • No active implanted devices (e.g., pacemakers, baclofen pumps)

Referrals

If you qualify, please have your physician submit two referrals: one for Occupational Therapy (OT) and one for Physical Therapy (PT) to Spaulding Rehabilitation Cambridge – INSPIRE Lab (or ARC-Ex Clinic). Only one referral will be utilized, and we cannot guarantee availability in a specific discipline.
