(Falmouth, MA)- As part of the kick off festivities at the 2015 New Balance Falmouth Road Race, Spaulding Rehabilitation was proud to announce an official partnership with 15-time World Champion in wheelchair racing Tatyana McFadden. Tatyana will serve as an ambassador for Spaulding’s mission and as an honorary captain for the Spaulding Race for Rehab program, which has grown to be one of the largest fundraising programs in the region.

“Tatyana McFadden is quite simply one of the best athletes in the world today. Her record of accomplishment is already historic and she is poised to reach even greater heights,” said Oz Mondejar, Vice President, Mission and Advocacy, Spaulding Rehabilitation. “Even far more impressive than her athletic achievements is the quality of her character. We are so proud to support such an outstanding role model and impassioned advocate especially for young people with disabilities. She truly is the embodiment of our motto ‘find your strength’.

”Tatyana McFadden was born with spina bifida but never let that or any obstacle slow her down. Today, she is recognized as a multi-time Paralympic champion in summer and winter sports, dominant racing champion and global ambassador for disabled sports. Among her numerous achievements she is a multi-time Boston Marathon champion, recipient of the 2015 Laureus Award World Sports Person of the Year with Disabilities and multi-time World Marathon Grand Slam Champion. She is expected to be favored again in upcoming grand slam competitions as well as at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.

McFadden first visited Spaulding in 2014 in conjunction with her second victory at the Boston Marathon. While the hospital’s outstanding examples of inclusive design and a vibrant staff and patient community were evident, it was the pediatric rehabilitation unit that most intrigued her. Upon meeting the team she quickly learned of an internship opportunity. Tatyana spent the following summer at Spaulding working closely as a child life services intern for the unit. During that time she formed a strong connection to the staff, patients and Spaulding Community.

“To be able to formally represent Spaulding is such a natural partnership. I’ve seen first-hand the dedication of the caregivers and the amazing innovation and compassion that happens there every day. To have their support as I compete and share their story in my travels is something I’m honored to do,” said Tatyana McFadden.

Spaulding Rehabilitation through its Spaulding Cape Cod hospital is proud to be the official sponsor for the 2015 New Balance Falmouth Road Race Wheelchair Division. Tatyana presented by Spaulding, will be a featured speaker at the 2015 New Balance Falmouth Road Race Health and Fitness Expo on Saturday August 15th at 12pm followed by an autograph session in the Spaulding Cape Cod booth. Tatyana will compete in the race on Sunday and then welcome her 56 fellow Spaulding Race for Rehab team members as they complete their runs after raising over $50,000 for Spaulding Cape Cod.
