New England Revolution And Spaulding Rehab Get Local Players Revved Up For The Soccer Season
Marlborough- As the outdoor soccer season gets into full swing over 150 local youth players recently had a chance to hone their skills under the direction of the pros from the New England Revolution Academy and learn injury prevention information from the experts at the nearby Spaulding Framingham Outpatient Center. This free clinic offered in partnership by Spaulding and the New England Revolution was held at Fore Kicks in Marlborough and gave players ages 7-16, coaches and their parents the opportunities to learn valuable information from passing drills to prevention of common sports injuries.
"Spaulding is proud to offer this clinic free to area youth with our partners at the Revolution Academy. Our goal is to make sure that players, parents and coaches have the tools not only to see better performance on the field but to have the knowledge to train properly and avoid preventable injuries," said Dr. Darren Rosenberg, Medical Director, Spaulding Framingham Outpatient Center. Recently, Spaulding launched a new Spine and Sports Center specializing in adolescent sports injuries and treatment at its Framingham location.
Participants were led by New England Revolution Academy coaches through various skill stations that challenged a player's agility, ball control, and shooting. Spaulding Physical Therapists ran players through dynamic stretching, agility drills, strengthening and flexibility exercises. "The drills we used with attendees are based on the same methods we use with the Revolution to prepare for the season," said Jennifer Green, PT, MSPT, Spaulding Framingham Therapist and Physical Therapist for the New England Revolution.
"Its wonderful to work with great partners like Spaulding and give players a taste of the types of skills we work on at our Revolution Academy Clinics. It's always gratifying to see players sharpen their skills and enjoy the game more," said Deven Apajee, Revolution Academy Director.
Spaulding is the official rehabilitation hospital of the New England Revolution and will be partnering on two other clinics in Plymouth on May 19th and Danvers on June 2nd. For more information email sropevents@partners.org.
