Dance Medicine at Spaulding Framingham
The Dance Medicine program is led by a physician and team of physical therapists who specialize in dance rehabilitation. We provide education about dancer wellness and injury prevention, evaluate dance-specific biomechanics, and promote overall dance health.
Our Commitment
Our Dance Medicine Program clinicians understand the physical demands involved with this artistic pursuit. We have expertise to help dancers achieve their maximal potential through improved technique and movement patterns, and to minimize time lost due to injury.
Our Team Approach
Our team of experts is led by Lauren Elson, MD and Kester Cotton, PT, DPT, OCS CMPT. Dr. Elson, a physician who specializes in Dance and Performing Arts Medicine and dancer herself. She is board certified in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Kester serves as Dance Program Coordinator for Spaulding Rehabilitation. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, Kester had a remarkable career as a professional dancer. Kester’s career is focused on dancer wellness and he specializes in the prevention and rehabilitation of dance injuries. Together, they will:
- Perform a detailed evaluation of the dancer and their technique
- Provide evidence-based treatment of dance injuries & movement dysfunction
- Collaborate with dance teachers and trainers to address individual needs
With years of experience working with dancers and performing artists, Dr. Elson and Kester Cotton, have created a team comprised of:
