COVID Rehabilitation Program

Returning home and resuming life may be harder than anticipated for many recovering from COVID-19 symptoms. It is widely reported that many patients recovering from COVID-19 continue to face physical, cognitive, or mental health problems long after their initial treatment. To address these recovery needs, Spaulding Rehabilitation is dedicated to providing care for patients who were hospitalized for COVID-19.

Who is eligible?

Spaulding welcomes patients who are recovering at home or have been discharged from the hospital or inpatient rehabilitation facility and who are experiencing ongoing, prolonged symptoms related to their COVID-19 diagnosis illness commonly referred to as “Post COVID Syndrome.”

What post COVID symptoms do we address?

Patients who are recovering from a positive COVID-19 diagnosis can receive treatment for a variety of ongoing symptoms related to the long-term effects of COVID-19 which may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Prolonged cough
  • Dyspnea
  • Chest pain
  • Arthralgias (joint pain) 

Care and Services

At Spaulding Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Kent Hospital, we will provide a number of services based on each patient’s individual need beyond the breadth of just COVID recovery. Our physician-led team consists of speech language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and case managers. 

  • Physical therapists will conduct virtual video evaluations and design an individualized, home-based exercise program to address the patient’s pulmonary, musculoskeletal, and neurologic impairments. 
  • Occupational therapy virtual video sessions will be offered to help patients who have difficulty performing activities of daily living including eating, bathing, dressing, and toileting. 
  • Speech language pathologists will be offered via virtual video sessions to provide assistance with swallowing and cognitive impairments.
  • Translator services are available for non-English speaking patients.
