Speech-Language Pathology/ Voice Therapy Services

Voice Therapy

Spaulding Rehabilitation Network’s Speech-Language Pathologists evaluate and treat cognitive, swallowing, and communication deficits that may interfere with the ability to speak, understand, read, write, focus, remember, or problem-solve. Our individual and group treatments teach you techniques to compensate for difficulties in these areas.

The Spaulding Network’s speech-language pathologists are leaders in their profession. Our therapists have expertise in the treatment of cognitive communication disorders, traumatic brain injury, and post-concussion syndrome.

Our therapists treat other common disorders that affect aspects of cognition including anoxic brain injury, right hemisphere stroke, and Alzheimer’s and other dementias. If you or a loved one suffers from progressive neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis, our speech-language pathologists will work with you to regain skill and strength. At Spaulding, we treat the whole person.

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment

At our Cape Cod outpatient facilities, our therapists are experts in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, which is a proven, effective speech therapy program that improves oral communication in individuals with Parkinson’s disease beyond what current medical and surgical interventions can often achieve. LSVT® has also helped individuals with multiple sclerosis, stroke, ataxic dysarthria, aging voice, vocal fold paralysis, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

Using the LSVT® approach, speech and language therapists focus on a very specific target: increasing vocal loudness. Improving the loudness factor enhances an individual’s ability to produce and coordinate speech. The technique quickly allows patients to incorporate learned communication strategies in their work or home environment, enhancing self-confidence and quality of life.

Expertise

Spaulding Network therapists are experts in the treatment of listening, reading, writing and aphasia, which are linked to speaking problems. Our team approach values ongoing communication with interdisciplinary therapists and doctors as well as family members to help ensure your recovery.
