Musculoskeletal (Orthopedic) Rehabilitation

Orthopedic rehabilitation after an illness, injury, or surgery can be a challenging process. At the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, we’ll be there at your side, providing expert care and support as you rebuild the strength you need to return to your home, your community and the life you love.

The Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program of the Spaulding Network brings together the region’s foremost rehabilitative physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and other clinicians to provide superior orthopedic care for patients following fracture, joint replacement or orthopedic trauma.

We provide a comprehensive range of services, all with the goal of restoring maximum possible function and independence. Our interdisciplinary teams work with patients and their families to provide integrated care that’s tailored to each patient’s needs – whether it is returning home after a knee replacement or taking a first step after major orthopedic trauma. Our experienced teams work closely with each patient to ensure they achieve the best possible outcomes.

As a patient in our Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program, your care is provided by a physician-led specialty team that will work closely with you and your family or caregivers to meet your specific needs. We provide ongoing education for you and your family members and coordinate post-discharge support to help ensure that you continue to reach your goals in the weeks and months to come.

Approach to Care

At the Spaulding Network, patients learn the foundational skills for independent living by assuming greater responsibility to direct and perform their own care. It’s a challenging process that can be both physically and emotionally trying. But with the support and guidance of our caring and knowledgeable staff, patients can make remarkable strides, growing steadily stronger and more confident.

Family members are also important participants in each patient’s rehabilitation team. We offer training and education to help them play an active support role while their loved one is in the hospital and after he or she returns home.

Our Orthopedic Program includes:

  • Individual physical and occupational therapy focused on progressive mobilization and restoration of function
  • Group physical and occupational therapy focused on improving strength, endurance and flexibility
  • Fully equipped therapy gyms with state-of-the-art equipment
  • Interdisciplinary pain management
  • Post-surgical care
  • Bracing and orthotics
  • Ongoing communication and consultation with referring surgeons and physicians
  • Education about risk factors and injury prevention
  • Functional living areas to practice newly learned therapy techniques and ensure a safe discharge
  • Adaptive sports and recreational programs
