Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center

The Spaulding-Labuschange Neuromodulation Center is dedicated to the rigorous scientific exploration that aims to improve the body and mind. Led by Dr. Felipe Fregni, the Center investigates the main techniques of neuromodulation including the mechanisms of action and their use for rehabilitation. These techniques are used as tools to improve rehabilitation for many conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain, phantom limb pain, cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injury. The main non-invasive brain stimulation techniques used are:

  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) uses magnetic fields applied close to the scalp through a plastic coil. It is a safe and painless technique that can stimulate parts of the brain.
  • Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) uses a weak electrical current delivered through wet sponges placed over the scalp. This technique can increase or decrease brain activity in certain regions.
  • Transcranial Pulsed Current Stimulation (tPCS) uses a weak electrical current delivered in different pulses, to modulate brain waves.

Our Goals

Research the impact of noninvasive stimulation on the bioelectric landscape of the body.

  • Collaborate on research on the inherent possibilities of the Body Electric transformational potential.
  • Further development of practical clinical treatments for those with mental disorders.
  • Educate, train, and promote clinical-based research and the science of Body Electric.

Our Vision

Our approach integrates brain and body wellness, and is not restricted to prevention or treatment, but encompasses overall health and performance. The center is dedicated to the belief “Think Outside the Brain” — the total plasticity of the self without a physical-mental distinction. It’s about transformation.

Labuschagne Foundation

The Labuschagne Foundation partnered with the Spaulding Neuromodulation Center for the rigorous scientific exploration that will lead to new discoveries to improve body and mind.
