Neurologic Music Therapy
Based upon neuroscience research, the Spaulding Outpatient Center Boston Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) Program provides specific, individualized, and standardized interventions for those affected by neurologic injury or disease. Neurologic Music Therapy differs from traditional Music Therapy as it views music not as a social science model for well being, but as a neuroscience model, where music is a hard-wired brain language.
NMT is the therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor dysfunctions due to neurologic disease or injury. Treatment techniques are based upon the scientific knowledge of the profound effects of music on the human brain.
Our Neurologic Music Therapy Program serves across the spectrum of high and low functioning patients, and focuses on 3 key goal areas:
- Speech & Language: Aphasia, Apraxia,Dysarthria, Voice Disorders
- Sensorimotor: Upper Extremity,Lower Extremity, Gait Training
- Cognition: Attention, Memory, Initiation, Executive Function, Neglect training
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Acquired Brain Injury
- Huntington’s Disease
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Cerebral Palsy
- Alzheimer’s Disease
Initial Evaluation: $140 (45 minutes)
Follow Up Visits: $90 (45 minutes)
