Effects of Amantadine on the Treatment of Chronic TBI Irritability and Aggression
Purpose: To investigate whether the drug amantadine is effective in treating irritability and aggression in patients with TBI.

To Qualify:

1. 18-65 years old

2. TBI>6 months ago

3. Experience irritability and aggression following TBI

Exclusions:

1. Penetrating head injury

2. Use of amantadine within the past month

Length: 3 months

Study Visits:

1. 3 total visits, 3 hours each

2. 1 screening or baseline visit

3. 2 follow-up visits at 28 days and 60 days.

 

Effects of Light Emitting Diodes on Memory in TBI Patients

Purpose: To investigate whether Light Emitting Diodes can improve working memory in TBI patients

To qualify: 1. 18-65 years old

2. Mild TBI>6 months ago

3. Experience memory and thinking issues following TBI

Exclusions: 1. Penetrating head injury

2. Moderate to severe TBI

Length: 4 months

Study Visits:

1. 23 Total

2. 2 screening visits

3. 3 LED treatments per week for 6 weeks

3. 3 follow-up visits - 1 week, 1 month and 2 months after study completion



Effect of Zolpidem on Restoration of Consciousness Following TBI

Purpose: To investigate whether the drug zolpidem can restore consciousness in patients with TBI

To Qualify: 1. Age 18

2. TBI>4 months ago

3. Vegetative or minimally conscious state

Exclusions: 1. Ventilator dependency

2. Previous use of zolpidem for restoration of consciousness

Study Visits: 1. Phase I: 2 days at home

2. Phase II: 2 days at Spaulding Boston

3. Phase III: 3 days Moss Rehab

*Only qualifying patients may participate in Phase II and III.
