  • Spaulding researchers treat phantom limb pain, NBC10 Boston

    Feeling pain in a limb that’s no longer there is something many amputees experience. For many, the “phantom limb” pain will go away. But for others, the pain can be lifelong. Researchers at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston are now testing a treatment that could help.

    In 2015, the International Journal of Medical Students conducted an interview with Professor Fregni, director of the Spaulding Neuromodulation Center, regarding the challenges of pursuing and developing a career in research.

  • Jumper cables for the mind

    In 2013, the team was interviewed by the New York Times about the current use and future perspectives of tDCS in multiple areas of medicine such as chronic pain, post-stroke paralysis, Parkinson's disease, depression, tinnitus and fibromyalgia.

  • Demonstration videos about tDCS

    The team has also participated in multiple demonstration videos in the area of neuromodulation and its related techniques.

Awards

Our Center has received funding from multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants for our studies. Funding sources have included grants such as an NIH-SBIR R44, two NIH R01 grants, Department of Defense (DoD) grants and different funding sources that have been entrusted to sponsor us such as foundations.

2019

Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

Dr. Felipe Fregni was recently announced as a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). The PECASE is the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government to outstanding scientists and engineers who are beginning their independent research careers and who show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology.

2015

The Spaulding Neuromodulation Center is located at the 79/96 Research Building in Charlestown, MA within the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Research Laboratories complex and has won the award for the Best Shared Space within Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in 2015.
