Toe Walking
Walking on the toes or the balls of the feet, also known as toe walking, is fairly common in children who are just beginning to walk. Most children outgrow it by age 2. Children who continue toe walking beyond the toddler years often do so out of habit. As long as your child is growing and developing normally, toe walking is unlikely to be a cause for concern however can be a social stigma and physical therapy intervention can help.
Toe walking sometimes can result from certain conditions, including cerebral palsy, shortened Achilles tendon, muscular dystrophy and autism spectrum disorder. Therefore, it is recommended that you seek medical advice to determine the root cause of the toe walking and our physical therapist are here to help with education and exercises.
Toe Walking is a type of walking pattern that occurs when children walk on their tip-toes instead of using the more “typical” heel first pattern. Learn how physical therapy can help.
