Spaulding's Approach for Pelvic Health
We tailor our approach specifically to your needs and circumstances. Our team of clinicians will review your medical history and the results of diagnostic, neurologic and gynecologic testing and evaluate you to develop an individual treatment plan.
Our Pelvic Health Program is designed to treat:
Bowel Dysfunction
People can experience a variety of different complications involving their bowels. Some of these diagnoses can include fecal incontinence (FI), bowel urgency/frequency, and constipation. Our treatments can include education on toilet postures, education on diet modification, exercise, biofeedback, electrical stimulation, breathing strategies or manual techniques.
Urinary Incontinence
Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine significant enough to cause a problem in daily activities. Our noninvasive therapeutic treatments include exercise, biofeedback and lifestyle strategies to help you manage urinary incontinence.
Pregnancy and Postpartum-Related Pain Rehabilitation
Many women experience pain as a result of pregnancy, labor and delivery. Our clinicians can help reduce pain and improve function both during pregnancy and in the post-partum period through exercise, manual therapy, body mechanics training, bracing and education.
Pelvic Pain
Pain in the pelvic region can limit many activities associated with normal daily function, including sexual intercourse. A physical therapist with specialized training will first assess the cause of pain, and, based on your symptoms and long-term goals, will recommend a treatment approach. This treatment may include techniques to decrease discomfort, strengthen pelvic muscles, provide flexibility training to pelvic floor and hip muscles and address concerns related to issues of intimacy. Therapeutic techniques may include manual therapy, stretching, strengthening, biofeedback and education about lifestyle changes.
Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Prolapse occurs when organs slip or fall out of place. This can occur vaginally or rectally. Cystocele and rectocele are examples of this diagnosis. Treatments can include pelvic floor muscle strengthening exercises, education on behavioral modifications, posture education, breathing strategies, biofeedback, or manual techniques.
Levels of Care for Pelvic Health
Our highly trained clinical staff will use the most advanced rehabilitation treatments and evidenced-based research to make a difference in your life and help pave the road to wellness.
