Lymphedema Management at Spaulding Framingham
Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the interstitium, which causes chronic inflammation and active fibrosis of the affected tissue. It can present in different parts of the body due to different medical reasons and with different severities. If you are diagnosed with lymphedema, our specialists are here to help alleviate discomfort and pain — giving you the ability to feel like yourself again.
Spaulding's Approach to Lymphedema Management
We treat lymphedema with manual lymph drainage, often with compression bandaging and with the fitting of appropriate compression garments. As part of your therapy, we’ll empower you to take control of your condition by teaching you proper skin hygiene, infection prevention, therapeutic exercise and how to identify early signs of infection.
Our trained clinicians are committed to helping you manage this complex disorder through education, training, counseling and recommended support groups to meet your needs.
Our team offers exceptional external support in the form of support groups, introductions to the Live Strong and Cornerstone projects and lists of opportunities such as the Ellie Fund and Cleaning for a Reason.
