Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy (CP) refers to a static, non-progressive neuromuscular condition that is acquired in early infancy and can vary in every patient. It can affect motor control, balance, muscle tone and overall movements. Some children will have intellectual impairments and profound disabilities while others can present with very mild physical issues. Premature birth is a risk factor for being diagnosed with CP. Concerns with motor development are usually seen in the first year of life and delays are often noted due to muscle weakness or abnormal motor skills. Therapeutic interventions focus on the specific needs of every patient from orthotic and tone management, to gait training and communication supports, to adapted equipment needs and activity participation.
