COVID-19 Recovery & Rehabilitation in Boston

For many, the long-term effects of COVID-19 may produce physical, cognitive, or mental health problems well after diagnosis and treatment. To address the multifaceted COVID recovery needs of patients, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston is dedicated to providing specialized, multidisciplinary care for the rehabilitation of patients suffering from the long-term effects of COVID-19.

Who is eligible for COVID-19 care?

Spaulding welcomes patients to receive COVID-19 Recovery & Rehabilitation in the Boston area who have had a positive laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19 and continue to experience symptoms of the long-term effects of COVID-19.

What long-term symptoms of COVID-19 do we address?

Patients recovering from COVID-19 may experience a variety of symptoms. Some of the most common long-term symptoms associated with COVID-19 include:

  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lingering cough
  • Joint pain
  • Headaches

COVID Recovery Services

The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital of Boston provides a plethora of services based on each patient’s individual needs that proceed well beyond the scope of care recommended for COVID-19 recovery. Our multidisciplinary physician-led team consists of physical therapists, psychiatrists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, and case managers.

  • Patients will have an initial evaluation with a physiatrist to assess their neurologic, musculoskeletal, cognitive, and psychological needs.
  • Physical therapists will conduct evaluations following discharge and design an individualized, home-based exercise program to address the patient’s musculoskeletal, and neurologic impairments
  • Occupational therapy sessions will be offered to help patients who have difficulty performing activities of daily living including eating, bathing, dressing, and toileting.
  • Speech language pathologists will be offered to provide assistance with swallowing and cognitive impairments.
  • Ongoing rehabilitation care can be continued at one of our convenient Spaulding Outpatient Center sites when in person visits are appropriate
  • Translator services are available for non-English speaking patients.
  • Virtual visits, outpatient rehabilitation and home-based rehabilitation are available.
