Stories of Strength

Clifton Singletary

Meet Clifton

As a police officer, Clifton helped load injured people into ambulances following the Boston bombings. His commitment and service would be recognized at Spaulding in July 2013. To his surprise, a decade later, he would come back to Spaulding as a patient after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. “There’s a level of dedication the people have here that is beyond comprehension,” says Clifton.

Lindsey and her son, Max

Meet Lindsey

At 25, Lindsey was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) leading her life down a different path than she ever expected. After a stay at Spaulding Charlestown, she became a participant of our outpatient neurologic music therapy program. “Everything changes when you put music on,” says Lindsey, who credits the therapy with helping improve her balance, speed, and safety—slowing and reversing the typical pattern of MS.

Building Strength through Build-A-Bear

Build-A-Bear

Build-A-Bear Foundation, Inc. is helping the children in Spaulding’s pediatric unit just be kids, even while they’re facing significant medical and rehabilitation challenges. That support is expanding on Spaulding’s Child Life activities to include field trips that provide much-needed diversion for patients and their families and supplies for child-friendly activities to keep kids engaged and entertained while they deal with the demands of rehabilitation.

Imagine the Possibilities
