Nursing Leadership

The nursing team at Spaulding Rehabilitation, led by Chief Nursing Officer Judi Cullinane and supported by a team of associate chief nursing officers, oversees our facilities in Sandwich, Cambridge, Brighton, and Charlestown, MA. This committed team manages our extensive nursing staff, who play a vital role in improving the well-being of our patients and their families.

    Judi Cullinane, PhD, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, LSSBH, CCRN-K

    Chief Nursing Officer

    Judi earned her doctorate degree from Simmons University and her master's and baccalaureate degrees from Graceland University. She is a certified advanced nurse executive and critical care nurse through the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). Judi is also certified in Lean Six Sigma as a Black Belt in Healthcare, engaging nursing and interprofessional health care clinicians within strategy and change management to meet the needs of patients, families, employees, and the organization. She serves on the ANCC Commission on Accreditation, Nursing Continuous Professional Development. Judi has served on other boards and committees, including as an award judge for the Johnson & Johnson Nurse Fellowship, the National Nurse Advisory Board of Becton Dickinson, the Organization of Nurse Leaders (MA, RI, NH, VT, CT), the Boston MA, National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau, Theta at Large (007).

    Associate Chief Nursing Officer and Vice president of Hospital Operations

    Joanne oversees all clinical, administrative, and financial operations at a 180-bed long-term acute care hospital. She holds a doctorate in nursing practice and is certified in rehabilitation nursing and advanced nurse executive practice. Joanne is a transformational leader, prioritizing employee engagement, mentorship, and professional growth to ensure the highest quality care for our patients.

  • Martha Rafferty

    Martha Rafferty, MSN, RN

    Associate Chief Nursing Officer for Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston

    Martha supervises inpatient nursing, nursing supervisors and staffing, infection prevention, wound care, and nursing informatics. She is dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes and experiences through data-driven improvement strategies, leader standard work implementation, and fostering nursing professional growth and development across all levels. Martha holds a master's degree in nursing and is aligned with the mission and vision of Spaulding Nursing.

    Martha Kaniaru, DNP, RN, CRRN, NEA-BC

    Interim Associate Chief Nurse Spaulding Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Brighton

    Martha is responsible for overseeing the management and clinical aspects of patient care services, as well as the daily operations of the nursing division at Spaulding Brighton. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and is committed to promoting rehabilitation and executive nursing in post-acute and skilled nursing environments.

    Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Cape Cod Associate Chief Nursing Officer

    Janice oversees nursing practice quality of care and patient outcomes. She is a master's prepared nurse and NEA-BC, passionate about empowering nurses to lead change, uphold high-quality care, and foster a healthy work environment. Previously, Janice served as the associate chief nursing officer for Med-Surg and Critical Care at South Shore Hospital.

    Executive Director for Nursing Practice Excellence for Spaulding Rehabilitation

    In her role, Debra supervises nursing innovation initiatives and collaborates with stakeholders to cultivate a culture of nursing excellence and continuous improvement. Debra has a Doctor of Nursing practice degree from the Mass General Institute of Health Professions and is dedicated to achieving exceptional patient outcomes.
