Inpatient Hospitals Across Spaulding Have Now All Achieved Prestigious Magnet Nursing Designation for First Time
Spaulding’s 3 Inpatient Post-Acute Care Hospitals join a select group nationally to receive Magnet-accreditation
Boston, MA - After a several year journey, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston is proud to announce it has achieved Magnet-accreditation with distinction from The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®. Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital becomes the third post-acute hospital in New England to earn this recognition joining a select group of just 9.4 percent of hospitals nationwide. Magnet with Distinction celebrates hospitals and healthcare organizations that exceed the scoring thresholds required to attain Magnet designation.
“To achieve this distinction took the tireless commitment by every member of Spaulding. Over the entire process over many years, our incredible team kept a focus on achieving the highest standards in patient care and quality by fostering a culture of excellence. We are so proud that all three of our hospitals at Spaulding earned this recognition and will raise the appreciation of the nursing profession in post-acute care,” said Judi Cullinane, PhD, MSN, CAGS, RN, NEA-BC, LSBBH, Chief Nursing Officer, Spaulding Rehabilitation.
The Commission on Magnet Recognition voted unanimously to approve the designation. Magnet recognition is the gold standard for excellence in patient care and is a factor when the public considers health care organizations. To achieve initial Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from staff and leadership. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.
“Throughout Spaulding led by our incredible nursing team, there was an unwavering focus on the Magnet journey. This designation sets Spaulding apart as a leader and elevates the critical role of post-acute care. I congratulate everyone that made this tremendous achievement possible,” said Greg Jackson, Interim President, Spaulding Rehabilitation.
Health care organizations applying for Magnet recognition must demonstrate an adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrate improvements in patient care and quality. A key component is investing in staff, particularly nursing, to provide pathways to improve career opportunities through research, education, advancement and support. Spaulding as part of its Magnet journey launched new initiatives to supporting Nursing led clinical research, broader education and clinical ladder outreach as well as expanded mentoring programs for nurses. Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital joins Spaulding Hospital Cambridge and Spaulding Cape Cod achieving this status which completes the broader Magnet journey and the first system in post-acute care in the Northeast to achieve this feat.
Research shows that Magnet-recognized organizations demonstrate better patient outcomes and higher patient satisfaction. As a Magnet-recognized organization, Spaulding Rehabilitation is making a significant contribution to the community by keeping patients healthy and safe.
