For fourth year in row Spaulding honored as a “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion”

Boston, MA (July 15, 2020) – Disability: IN and American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) this week released the 2020 Disability Equality Index (DEI) – the sixth year measured by the Index. Among the record 247 corporations was the Boston based Spaulding Rehabilitation which earned the highest score possible of 100 on the index for the second straight year. Included in this year’s Index were 143 Fortune 500 and 154 Fortune 1000 to benchmark their disability inclusion efforts. The 2020 DEI results indicated where companies are excelling in their commitment to inclusive environmental, social, and governance policies.

“Now more than ever, organizations recognize the crucial importance of diversity and inclusion efforts. We are proud that we are once again being recognized for our work to ensure an environment that is inclusive to all communities to pursue careers. Achieving diversity and inclusion will always be a top priority for our organization,” said David Storto, President, Spaulding Rehabilitation.

The DEI was created by the DEI Advisory Committee, a diverse group of business leaders, policy experts and disability advocates. The DEI, now in its sixth year, exists to help business impact the unemployment/underemployment of people with disabilities. The 2020 DEI measured: Culture & Leadership; Enterprise-Wide Access; Employment Practices (Benefits, Recruitment, Employment, Education, Retention & Advancement, Accommodations); Community Engagement; Supplier Diversity; Non-U.S. Operations (Non-Weighted).

“The best way to attract, retain and grow talent with disabilities is to create an accessible, inclusive workplace. This year’s top scoring Disability Equality Index companies are demonstrating their commitment to many of the numerous leading disability inclusion practices featured in the DEI, recognizing that there’s still room for improvement. We are proud to have developed strong partnerships with corporate allies who are committed to advancing disability inclusion and equality across their businesses in the United States and around the world,” said Jill Houghton, President & Chief Executive Officer, Disability:IN.

“The Disability Equality Index top scoring companies represent those businesses that have invested in accessibility and inclusion across their enterprise. As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ADA, it is wonderful to see the progress made by these companies, and we hope to see continued progress and support for the DEI over the next 30 years,” said Maria Town, President and CEO of AAPD.

The recognition of being a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” is reserved for those companies that have scored 80 or above on the DEI. The full company list can be accessed here: https://disabilityequalityindex.org/top_companies Read the full news release from the USBLN.
