Asian Development Bank Group Comes to Spaulding to Learn About Sustainable Design and Operations in Health Care
The delegation of the Asian Development Bank at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown
Recently team members from Spaulding Rehabilitation and Mass General Brigham Global Advisory hosted a delegation of over 80 members from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown in support of the Tufts University Fletcher School’s Envision Program. The focus of the visit was to learn about the LEED Gold Certified hospital and the ways sustainable design and resilient construction were incorporated into building Spaulding, which opened in 2013. The hospital has become a model of how to plan for climate change and use environmentally sensitive materials, all while improving inclusive and patient-centered design.
“Our entire team was so proud to share the lessons we have learned in the over 10 years of the new Spaulding being open as well as to impart the critical importance of an entire organizational commitment to sustainable principles. Elevating the quality of life through all means, including better design, is core to Mass General Brigham’s mission and the work we do in Mass General Brigham Global Advisory,” said Jeanne Cooper, Vice President, International Services, Spaulding Rehabilitation.
The Envision Program is designed to support the ADB’s top leaders as they implement a bank-wide strategic pivot to become the “climate bank” of Asia and the Pacific. As one of the world’s multilateral development banks, ADB aims to invest $100B in climate finance by 2030, with the goal of supporting economy-wide climate transition in its 38 developing member countries. The Envision Program is focused on innovative climate solutions, just transition, private sector engagement, climate policy, adaptation and resilience, leadership for systems change, and long-term strategy. As one of the largest investors in climate transition in the continent of Asia, ADB has immense potential to accelerate climate action on a widespread scale.
