Additional training opportunities

As a complement to our principal PM&R programs, the hospital also educates and trains medical students through a clerkship, and, as resources allow, trains post residency fellows in disciplines such as stroke, pain management, neurorehabilitation and pediatric rehabilitation.

More than 400 health care students from nearby institutions participate annually in internship programs in nursing, speech-language pathology, physical and occupational therapy, and related disciplines. We also offer continuing education programs, workshops and symposia for healthcare professionals as well as a community lecture series.

State-of-the-art research center

Led by PM&R faculty, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is a leading center for groundbreaking research contributing to advancements in rehabilitation science. Our continuing research includes clinical studies, the evaluation of new rehabilitation medications, development of diagnostic tools, design and testing of assistive devices and robotics, as well as basic research into the nature of disease and disability.

These endeavors enhance our treatment programs, with research results often quickly making their way to the bedside. Increasingly, as we expand our research environment and add new initiatives, important and substantive opportunities are afforded our research fellows. Research also plays an important role with our resident physicians, each having research elective rotations in the latter half of their residency training.
