Community Wellness and Fitness

Spaulding Medford offers the following wellness and fitness programs. Check the Community Events Calendar for details and times.

After Therapy Fitness Program
After discharge from physical or occupational therapy we offer this program as a way of transitioning back to a health club, exercise class, or exercise regimen. For a nominal fee, a therapy graduate can purchase a card and use the center's exercise equipment during specified hours. A great way to keep your fitness program on track!
Back and Spine Clinics
Physical therapists, specializing in the care of the spine, will provide education regarding spine anatomy, injury prevention, proper lifting techniques and core strengthening exercises to protect your spine.
Calming the Chaos
This six week community program led by an occupational therapist specialized in mind/body medicine provides participants with a variety of stress management and meditation techniques that are easily incorporated in work and home activities. It's a great opportunity to relax, destress and unwind.
Fit for Life
A community group exercise program, led by a physical therapy assistant, comprised of strengthening and stretching exercises. An excellent means of staying fit throughout the year and over time.
Posture Clinics
During our posture clinics, a physical therapist will educate you on how biomechanical stressors to the body can affect your posture. Postural screenings can detect such stresses so that they can be corrected and alleviated.
Reiki Clinic
Our integrative medicine team of medical doctors, physical therapists and occupational therapists introduce you to the concepts of life energy or "chi". These experiential evenings include T'ai Chi exercises and a brief hands-on energy treatment. Participants rave about how relaxed and energized they become.
Sports Clinics
Inadequate preparation for a seasonal sport such as golf, running or skiing can result in injury. During our popular sports clinics held through the year, participants will learn about anatomy, proper footwear, stretching exercises, body mechanics, and injury prevention.
Yoga Classes
Yoga consists of physical postures, breathing techniques, relaxation, and meditation. Potential health benefits of yoga practice include improving strength, flexibility and balance, reducing excess muscle tension and anxiety, improving mood, concentration, and self-acceptance. Many people think that one needs to be very flexible to practice yoga. In fact, anyone can do yoga; how it is done by one person can be very different than is appropriate for another. At Spaulding Medford we emphasize adapting yoga practice to a person's individual abilities and needs. We have yoga classes, as well as opportunities to work with people on an individual basis.
