Program Focus

The inpatient musculoskeletal team provides daily medical, rehabilitation, education, and psychological support for patients recovering from traumas and/or illnesses, including:

Traumatic injuries
Multiple fractures
Joint replacements and reconstructions
Metastatic bone disease
Nerve entrapment
Arthritis
Osteoporosis
Diabetes
Cancer
Vascular, cardiac or pulmonary diseases

The goals of the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Program are to facilitate restoration of the patient's prior role and task performance.

The Team
The primary clinical team may include doctors in physical medicine and rehabilitation and internal medicine, as well as nurses, therapists, social services, case management, and nutrition.

Our interdisciplinary team works with the patient on a daily basis to restore prior levels of functioning. The team works with each patient towards individual goals.

Family Participation
Family members are important members of the team, and are always welcome to treatment sessions. Family support is an essential component of recovery and discharge.

The Process
Treatments are given in both individual and structured therapeutic group settings. The recovery process often begins with:

Instruction in activities of daily living
Balance and mobility instruction
Treatment of associated medical conditions
Intensive gait training
Education in risk factors such as fall prevention
