"I remember my sister-in-law telling me 'when they start talking about rehab in a few days, I want you say you want Spaulding,'" says Michael's mother, Kathy. "She was very adamant that Spaulding was the best." Michael was moved to Spaulding's
Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program.
"The moment we walked in I was very comfortable with his treatment and care," says Kathy. "Spaulding is the Disney World of Rehab! From a customer service perspective, questions were answered before I could even anticipate them - and that's what most impressed me."
Within just a few days therapists had Michael up walking and moving around, attending therapy without his wheelchair. After spending two weeks at Spaulding Michael returned home. He attended physical therapy four to five times a week for the remainder of the summer.
Michael stayed as dedicated to his physical therapy regimen as he did to football conditioning. Although his injury kept him on the sidelines, he made the best of it, helping the coaches at every practice and game. Mid-season, he was named honorary co-captain.
Although Michael has experienced some setbacks due to his injury, he is more determined than ever to regain his physical status prior to the accident. He plans to attend Westfield State College in the fall.
