Leadership Catalyst Research Fellowship

The Spaulding Research Institute (SRI) seeks to promote the translation of research findings and scientific knowledge into assessments and interventions that improve functional abilities and quality of life in those with a range of disabilities.

Objective

The Leadership Catalyst Research Fellowship provides the training to cultivate a cadre of well-qualified rehabilitation scientists who have been trained in an interdisciplinary environment to conduct high-quality clinical research that has high impact. These Harvard Medical School post-doctoral appointments offer mentoring and educational opportunities to foster continued development for the trainee to pursue rehabilitation research. Fellowship applicants can select mentors from among SRI’s research faculty, who pursue research across a range of rehabilitation medicine disciplines (e.g. Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Musculoskeletal Injury, and Chronic Pain).

Timing/Schedule

Applications are reviewed on annual cycle and fellowship positions are offered on an annual basis. A 2-year commitment is expected. The second year of funding is contingent upon sufficient progress in the first year (evidence of submission of a fellowship application to a federal agency or foundation).

Eligibility

Candidate must have received, as of the beginning date of the appointment, a Ph.D., M.D./D.O., D.D.S., or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution. Candidates must be highly motivated researchers with an expressed intention to pursue a career in clinical, translational, and/or basic science research in rehabilitation medicine. Candidates should have either publications or publishable theses. Strong candidates will express a clear plan for future independent funding for their research and how the fellowship will directly assist to achieve this. MD/DO candidates should at the minimum have some experience with research.

Curriculum Vitae of the applicant
Three letters of recommendation from outside HMS PM&R
Personal statement from the applicant describing career objectives and how background, experience, and training will lead to professional contributions in rehabilitation research (1 page only)
Statement from the proposed mentor outlining support the trainee will receive as well as plans for continued funding beyond the period of the fellowship (1 page only)
Summary of the proposed research over the two years of training (2 pages only)
