Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program
At Spaulding Rehabilitation Network Outpatient Centers, we’re committed to helping individuals who are experiencing a range of orthopedic difficulties, from minor lower back pain to the effects of major orthopedic surgery.
We treat conditions including back and neck pain, sciatica, neck pain/whiplash, tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries, total joint replacements, fractures, knee sprains/strains, hip pain, foot and ankle pain and sprains, carpal tunnel syndrome, sports and work-related injuries, degenerative joint disease, and more.
Approach to Care
The multidisciplinary teams at Spaulding’s outpatient centers look at the relationship between your impairments and functional limitations, and determine how they will impact your ability to perform functional activities. Our teams perform objective measurements to track your changes over treatment, and regularly reassess and modify care plans so that you receive the appropriate treatment to achieve their goals.
Our approach at Spaulding goes beyond addressing pain. Our physical and occupational therapists facilitate lifestyle changes to enhance health and ability, empower patients to overcome physical limitations while reducing healing time of injury, and restoring independence. We strive to optimize function as effectively as possible and to promote return to an active lifestyle, whether it is competitive athletics, work, hobbies, or simply pain-free living.
Communication is critical. The Spaulding Network treatment teams ensure physicians are kept up to date on your progress and any other issues pertinent to your care. They routinely summarize your care so that referring providers are aware of changing statuses, allowing for informed decisions regarding continued care. Having physicians work within Spaulding also enhances communication and collaboration.
Spaulding is home to highly skilled therapists who regularly attend ongoing continuing education on a yearly basis to continue to update and advanced their skills. Many of our therapists are certified in orthopedics from the American Physical Therapy Association.
Spaulding physical and occupational therapists work closely with referring physicians and specialists to ensure effective progression of therapy. On the North Shore, members the orthopedic team host the annual Excellence in Orthopedics Lecture Series.
Here, team members present with physicians to discuss care and rehabilitation for patients with varied orthopedic problems, using a variety of modalities and therapy techniques such as hand therapy, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, flexibility and strengthening, biomechanical analysis, gait and balance training, ultrasound and electrical stimulation, orthotics/prosthetics, and aquatic therapy, which are used throughout the Network.
Each of the Outpatient centers of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network have on-site clinical leaders who direct the Orthopedic Rehabilitation programs.
