Join us for Annual Set Sail Event at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston
Set Sail is an annual family-fun day held in September on the banks of the Charles River, supporting Spaulding’s unique Dr. Charles H. Weingarten Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program. Set Sail is attended on average by 600 people and raises about $125,000 annually. The event features RedBones barbecue, live music, petting zoo, caricature artists, cupcake decorating, bounce houses, face painting, appearances from local professional sports teams, and much more!
On the Spaulding pier, the Weingarten Adaptive Sports Program serves as an innovative approach to rehabilitation through recreational activities such as adaptive windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, cycling and wall climbing. People of all ages with disabilities and limitations are meeting their rehabilitation goals through these enjoyable therapeutic experiences.
In 2010, Spaulding established the Graham Hale Gardner Angel Award in memory of Graham Gardner, an early participant in The Weingarten Adaptive Sports Program and an individual who radiated incredible grace and heroic determination. Each year, the Set Sail committee presents the award to an individual who exemplifies Graham’s spirit. Past recipients include:
- Cynthia Carr Gardner and Steven Gardner
- The Lilley Family—Ross, Jean, Josh & Hanna
